US shares lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.11%

At the close on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones lost 1.11%, the S&P 500 lost 1.34% and the NASDAQ Composite was down 2.11%.

The leaders of growth among the components of the Dow Jones at the end of today's trading were shares of Chevron Corp, which rose 0.91 points or 0.88%, to close at 104.50. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated rose 0.28% or 0.94 points to end at 333.81. American Express Company (NYSE: AXP) gained 0.09 points or 0.06% to close at 142.68.

The biggest losers were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC), which fell 2.62% or 1.57 points to end the session at 58.33. Home Depot Inc (NYSE: HD) was up 6.43 points (2.50%) to close at 250.93, while Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) was down 4.23 points (2.20 %) and closed trading at 188.03.

The leaders of growth among the components of the S&P 500 index at the end of today's trading were shares of Diamondback Energy Inc, which rose in price by 9.16% to the level of 81.26, EOG Resources Inc, which gained 6.63%, to close at 71.43, and also Marathon Oil Corporation, which rose 6.28% to end at 12.36.

The biggest losers were Western Digital Corporation, which fell 8.87% to close at 63.49. Freeport-McMoran Copper & Gold Inc shares lost 6.57% to trade at 32.70. Mosaic Co was down 6.31% to 29.57.

Five Prime Therapeutics Inc was the top performer among the NASDAQ Composite Index components in today's trading. They rose 78.74% to 38.00. Super League Gaming Inc was also the top performer, gaining 69.29% to end at 8.82, and Allied Esports Entertainment Inc, which rose 30.80% to end at 3.27.

Shares of The Dixie Group Inc fell the hardest, losing 40.66% to close at 3.240. Biovie Inc shed 38.73% to end the session at 14.35. Appharvest Inc prices fell 34.35% to 18.75.

On the New York Stock Exchange, the number of securities that fell (2522) exceeded the number of those that closed in positive territory (716), while the quotations of 62 shares remained practically unchanged. On the NASDAQ stock exchange 2846 companies fell in price, 515 rose, and 37 remained at the level of the previous close.

Diamondback Energy Inc rose to a 52-week high, rising 9.16%, 6.82 points to end at 81.26. Marathon Oil Corporation rose to a 52-week high, gaining 6.28%, 0.73 points to trade at 12.36. Chevron Corp rose to a 52-week high, climbing 0.88%, 0.91 points to close at 104.50. American Express Company shares rose to an all-time high, gaining 0.06%, 0.09 points to trade at 142.68. Five Prime Therapeutics Inc rose to a 3-year high, up 78.74%, 16.74, to close at 38.00. Super League Gaming Inc rose to a 52-week high, climbing 69.29%, 3.61 points to end at 8.82.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which is based on S&P 500 options trading, was up 7.12% to 28.57.

Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.22% or 20.95 to $ 1,694.85 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities, WTI crude oil futures for April delivery rose 4.49%, or 2.75, to $ 64.03 a barrel. Futures contracts for Brent crude for delivery in May rose 4.53%, or 2.90, to trade at $ 66.97 a barrel.

Meanwhile, on the Forex market, the EUR / USD pair was up 0.07% to hit 1.1974, while the USD / JPY was up 0.00% to hit 107.97.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.75% at 91.627.
